How to Find Your Pelvic Floor Muscles
Why Correct Identification Matters
Kegel exercises only work if you are actually contracting the pelvic floor. Many men unknowingly use the abdominal wall, glutes, or inner thighs instead. This reduces benefit and can create unnecessary tension.
Practical Identification Methods
1. Urine-stream cue (identification only)
While urinating, try to stop the flow briefly. The muscles that do this are the ones you want. Do not make a habit of interrupting urine flow as regular exercise.
2. Gas-stopping cue
Imagine you are trying to prevent passing gas. The gentle squeeze and lift you feel is largely pelvic floor.
3. Visual / tactile feedback
Some men notice a slight movement at the base of the penis or a lifting sensation when the correct muscles contract. You can also place a hand on the perineum (area between scrotum and anus) to feel a subtle rise.
